An Overview of Indonesia’s Economy I. Macroeconomic Characteristics According to the World Bank classification, Indonesia is a low middle income country. In 1985, Indonesia had a per capita GNP of 530 US dollars. In the same year, the per capita GNP of the ASEAN countries (excluding Brunei) was 560 US dollars in the Philippines, 800 US dollars in Thailand, 2000 US dollars in Malaysia and 7240 US dollars in Singapore. The Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia are both low-middle-income countries, while Malaysia and Singapore are high-middle-income countries.
