In the Lushan meeting held in the summer of 1959, the heroic figures of Peng Dehuai and Zhang Wentian became overnight “sinners” opposed to the “three red flags.” Peng was the “coach” and Zhang was the “deputy coach.” Zhang made a long speech at the Lushan meeting. Guilty of direct remonstrance is the last catalyst for Mao Zedong’s determination to launch the anti-rightist struggle.
