张静庐1919年开始进入出版界,在其后的30年时间里,或参与其事,或实际主持,或亲自创办书局、书店(泰东图书局、光华书局、现代书局、上海联合书店、上海杂志公司等)。这些书局、书店,从规模上讲,当然不能与商务印书馆、中华书局等大书局相提并论,但就对当时及后世的影响来说,这些中小书局曾以锐进的姿态,在思想文化史上占有其重要的一席之地。从这个意义上说,张静庐亦是近现代出版史上的一个重要人物,值得人们去认真研究。
