The French enjoy 40 days of paid leave and 9 holidays throughout the year, plus of course regular rest days two days a week. But the French are not satisfied with this, they like to holiday and weekends and on changing days together for a few days away. The French also refer to the cross-holiday imagery as “bridging,” and many are rated as “bridge engineers.” The many French holidays and religious festivals a year, plus regular weekend breaks, are enough time for bridge engineers to take a break from transforming the “bridge” into a large-span viaduct. No wonder even French magazines have to say that the French people are “pursuing the couch policy.” May is the French “weekend long” month. May 1989 is more like
