The U.S. Department of Defense recently unveiled the Joint Advanced Attack Technology (JAST) program. The program will produce two prototypes in seven years, plus an advanced ASTOVL model. Plan officials expect that two prototypes will compete in 2000. This work will be similar to the “Hayfland” plan and the eventual launch of the F-117 Stealth Fighter. The plan’s director is Major General George K. Malenina of the Air Force. At present, the plan has been introduced to the industry, signed on May 6 the first concept to explore the contract. In a comprehensive review of the U.S. Department of Defense, it was considered impossible for the Department of Defense to undertake several tactical and fighter development plans that were moving in parallel and therefore earmarked a total of 2.3 billion U.S. dollars for the JAST project.
