Gels have received much attention as a semi-solid soft material in recent years. Both macromolecules and small molecules can act as gel gelling agents, but the obvious difference is shown because of the great influence on the gel formed by the formation of the crosslinked structure during the formation. The small molecule polymer hybrid gel can combine the advantages of both, so that the hybrid gel combines the stimulus responsiveness of the small molecule gel and the mechanical properties of the polymer gel. In this paper, the differences and complementarities between polymer gels and small-molecule gels are reviewed. The progress of hybrid gels for small molecules and polymers is summarized.
