In our work we will interest in the study of self-accelerating decompositiontemperature TSADTof pyrotechnic compounds such as black powder (75%KNO310%C and15%S), and another mixture which contains (75%KClO415%CrCl3and10%S). We willdiscuss the application of the DSC traces after advanced kinetic analysis for thedetermination of the Time to Maximum Rate under adiabatic conditions (TMRad). In thiswork, attention will be focused on the applicability of AKTS-thermo kinetics software onthe determination of the SADT. The kinetic parameters can be evaluated by theisoconversional method. This is a numerical method which involves determination oftemperatures corresponding to a certain, arbitrarily chosen values of the conversion extentrecorded in the experiments carried out at different heating rates.The DSC signals were processed using the Friedman isoconversional method tocompute activation energy as a function of conversion. There was excellent agreementbetween the experimental and the simulation plots, which confirms the validity of thekinetic model used to describe the energetic material’s exothermic decomposition. Thisstudy presents a simulation of pyrotechnic compound’s adiabatic behavior Time toMaximum Rate (TMR) under adiabatic conditions (TMRad) and self-acceleratingdecomposition temperature.
