Contrastive discourse has gained its rapid development since it found its place in China about two decades ago.It has given a lot to our understanding of different languages as well as intercultural communication.Meanwhile,researchers in this field seem to have gone too far by equating discourse with language,and language with culture,which may cause misunderstanding and miscommunication.In this thesis I have made an attempt to discuss some problems in the current contrastive analysis of discourse by looking carefully into two sample articles from recent academic journals in this area.As it turned out,language and culture is no longer a right perspective to approach contrastive discourse.At the same time,the concept of discourse community is introduced,which may be more effective and easier to define as it is a sub-cultural system and contrasts between one system and another are somewhat more strongly made.
