与宋初文人对柳宗元的接受一起考察,韩愈在宋初文论中出现的情形大抵有四种:只尊韩愈未提及柳宗元;韩、柳并重;韩为主,柳为次;重柳轻韩。第四种情形极为罕见,晏殊是这种观念的代表人物。这种观念的诞生,与晏殊本身的文学观念有关。晏殊强调师经与学,认为柳宗元两方面兼而有之,因此,将柳宗元置于韩愈之上。而从晏殊与欧阳修的关系看,晏殊重柳轻韩还有另一种可能性。由于欧阳修极力提倡师法韩愈古文,与之交恶的晏殊既不能完全忽视韩愈,又不愿完全认同欧阳修的主张,因而选择重柳轻韩的观念。
