  A series of transparent polyimide-nanocrystalline-titania hybrid optical films with tunable refractive index, high thermal stability and thickness (20-30 μm) have been prepared by the incorporation of TiO2 nanoparticle into novel soluble polyimides which contain sulfur atom,-CF3 and hydroxy groups.It has been demonstrated that the introduction of sulfur atom and bulky-CF3 group into polyimide backbones increased the refractive index and optical transparency, respectively.Furthermore, the attachment of hydroxyl groups provided the organic-inorganic bonding and resulted in homogeneous hybrid solutions by controlling the mole ratio of titanium butoxide/ hydroxyl groups.AFM and SEM results indicated the formation of well-dispersed nanocrystalline-titania.Moreover, the optical transparency, good surface planarity, high thermally dimensional stability, and tunable refractive index of the polyimide were also achieved.
