Objective To construct an early human fetal skin burn model in vitro and explore the mechanisms of fetal wound healing. Methods Human fetal skin harvested from aborted fetuses (gestational age is 14 weeks) was transplanted to nude mice, and 4 weeks later we made burn wounds with electrotome on transplanted fetal skin. Then we observed histological characteristics of the wound healing process and examined the expression of EGF, MMP-2, and MMP-7.Results The transplanted fetal skin wound healed rapidly and scarlessly. And skin appendages could regenerate after epidermis repaired.EGF and MMP-7 expressed around the wound. Conclusions The method of constructing early human fetal skin burn model is simple and reliable.Human fetal skin maintain "scarless wound healing" ability and regenerative ability after transplanted to nude mouse. The new animal model is suitable for the study of human fetal skin wound healing mechanisms.EGF(+)/MMP 2(+)/MMP 7(-) expression pattern might be a reason for the "scarless wound healing" mechanism.
