  The cooperation of electric motor and internal combustion engine in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles(PHEVs)can significantlyimprove the operation efficiency of complete powertrain compared to conventional vehicles as a result of optimization of internalcombustion engine and electric motor operating points based on rule-based energy management strategy,which is appropriately designedto control the batterys state of charge(SOC).However,rule-based energy management strategy has its innate disadvantage that thewhole hybrid powertrain system has no choice but to reserve capacity as redundancy to response to the unpredictable driver behaviors inthe near future,which could lead to non-optimal system efficiency as expected.This paper focuses on theoptimization based algorithm forenergy management and economic driving over a pre-selected horizonusing messages from intelligent traffic system(ITS),which is proposedto schedule the charging or discharging of the high voltage battery,and when to turn on/off the engine and drive electrically.Thebene,ts of the proposed predictive intelligent control strategy are shown by simulations with data extracted from mega city driving situationin Shanghai.
