Membrane materials with high permeability and high selectivity are preferred for gas separations.However,trade-offs (or upper bounds) exist: polymers with higher permeability often exhibit lower selectivity,and vice versa.Studies of the upper bound for various separations have been drawn empirically and theoretically modeled,based on pure-gas data.
