Understanding how people make risky decisions is a promising target for basic scientific research. The dominant theories about risky decision-making (e.g.,EV,EU,SEU,and prospect theory) assume that risky decision is reached by a compensatory process involving a trade-off of probability against payoff. However, the processes of weighing and summing have been challenged for a long time.To date, the debate about whether risky choices are based on a compensatory process or a non-compensatory process is still unsettled. To resolve this debate,we used eye-tracking,ERP and fMRI technologies to investigate the decision process underlying risky decision making. Our results of eye-tracking,ERP and fMRI studies revealed that risky choice cannot be characterized solely as a compensatory process.
