Catecholamine system is a crucial neuroendocrine system, responsible for not only the transmission of neural signal but also the regional modulator of immune defence response[1].Immunocyte-derived catecholamine system also has been demonstrated to be involved in the immunomodulation in human [2], while the knowledge of similar system in invertebrate remains very limited.In present study, four catecholamine metabolism-related genes including phenylalanine hydroxylase (CfPAH), dopa decarboxylase (CfDDC), dopamine beta hydroxylase (CfDBH) and monoamine oxidase (CfMAO) had been cloned from the cDNA library of scallop Chlamysfarreri.The recombinant proteins of CfPAH, CfDDC and CfMAO were expressed in the prokaryotic expression system, and their activities were determined in vitro, which revealed they were of the similar abilities of catalyzing the catecholamine metabolism to those from other animals.
