Folic acid functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles for targeted drug delivery

  Ursolic acid(UA)as a nature product exhibits high anti-cancer efficiency and low toxicity features.However,the inefficient tumor targeting and poor bioavailability restricts its clinical application.To overcome this problem,UA-loaded mesoporous silica nanoparticles(MSNs)were modified with folic acid(FA)for targeted delivery of UA to folate receptor(FR)positive cancer cells.The physicochemical properties of the UA@MSN-FA nanoparticles were investigated for shape,particle size,zeta potential,nitrogen adsorption-desorption,infrared(IR)spectroscopy,drug encapsulation efficiency and drug release properties.The in vitro cellular uptake and folate receptor(FR)protein inhibition efficiency of UA@MSN-FA were also studied.
