Aim: Andrographolide, as an active component in traditional anti-diabetic herbal plants, is a diterpenoid lactone isolated from Andrographis paniculata promising for its potent anti-inflammatory and hypoglycemic effects. However, the effect of andrographolide on the development of diabetes in autoimmune diabetic NOD (non-obese diabetic) mice still remains unknown. This study aims to investigate the protective effects of andrographolide on the development of autoimmune diabetes and further clarify the underlying mechanism.
