  The back door is an important part of a car luggage compartment, steel plate is ususlly selected to be material used to make to door, the use of thermoplastic materials for the back door has been developed in recent year, and it can achieve the back door weight reduction of 18%~35%and can realize the back door style which the steel back door can not be achieved. We have designed a back door with thermoplastics in a new car A from 2014 to 2017. Since the material is thermoplastic, the structure, connection, per- formance and manufacture of the plastic back door are different from those of the steel back door. The advantages and characteristics of thermoplastic back door, and the development experience and design method of thermoplastic back door are introduced in the paper.
