Quantitative analysis of melanine and milk powder mixtures by terahertz time domain spectroscopy

  Quantitative measurement based on THz absorption spectrum is of great importance in THz applications.This paper used the newly developed terahertz time-domain spectroscopy(THz-TDS)to detect melamine and milk powder mixtures,quantitatively analysis in the frequency range of 0.2–1.8 THz.It was found that there are two absorption peaks at 2.0 THz and 2.27 THz in all three spectra.Different melamine concentrations show different absorption coefficient.It was found that the absorption coefficients of the components in each mixture were linearly proportional to their concentrations in the mixture.The relative error of less than 5%predicting the weight ratio of melamine in mixture have been achieved with the PLS method,demonstrating that the THz-TDS is an analytical technique of potential in non-destructive quantifying solid-state properties of melamine and milk powder compounds in the near future.
