As an enhanced accident tolerant fuel(ATF)for BWR at severe accident condition,FeCrAl-ODS ferritic steels have been developed, and their applicability is being studied under the Japanese MEXT program.Alloying design of FeCrAl-ODS ferritic steels has been conducted, focusing on effect of mutual interaction of Cr-Al on oxidation resistance and α-embrittlement.Cr-addition decreases the critical Al content for stabilizing the alumina(Al2O3)scale that extremely suppresses the steam oxidation.Al-addition suppresses α-embrittlement induced by excessive Cr-content during a steady state operation at the temperature below 300 °C.FeCrAl-ODS ferritic steels have been manufactured in the composition range of Fe-(10-18)Cr-(5-9)Al-0.5Ti-0.5Y2O3(wt%).Furthermore,effects of co-addition of Zr and excessive oxygen have been also studied to improve high-temperature strength, since Zr produces finely distributed Y-Zr oxide particles by replacing coarse Y-Al oxide particles.
