Nowadays,the problem of overweight and obesity in children and adolescents has emerged as one major public health problem all over the world.In China,although the total percentage of overweight/obesity is not as high as it is in the western world,the increase rate is appalling.This calls for an effect and effective health promotion project,and schools are one of the perfect settings.Thus,this paper discusses the development of a small-scale(i.e.several pilot schools)health promotion programme regarding the problem of interest by using Ewles and Simnett's(2003)seven-step planning and evaluation circle as a structure guide.Each stage of the programme is discussed in detail: Identify needs and priorities;Setting aims and objectives;Decide the best way of achieving the aims;Identify resources;Plan evaluation methods;Set an action plan;and Action,or implementation of the plan.Notably,the idea that promoting students' health in this programme will be regarded as a starting-point to promote the overall well-being among students and to develop comprehensive healthy schools.
