As a new member of IL-1 family cytokine, IL-33 has been proved to be associated with multiple diseases, including asthma, tissue injuries and infections, but little is known about the function of IL-33 in the pathognensis of osteoarthritis. To explore the underlying intricate mechanism, we first evaluated the expression of IL-33 in articular tissue from osteoarthritic patients. Compared to normal controls, IL-33 was abundantly increased in osteoarthritic articular tissues. We next found that IL-33 was significantly increased by chondrocytes in osteoarthritic articular.
