Due to its good strength to weight ratio, 2024 aluminum alloy (AA) is widely used in aerospace industry.Whether heat treatment affecting the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) behavior of this alloy was investigated in this study.A self-design uni-axial loading device was used to conduct the SCC test in 0.1 M NaCl solution.The experimental results showed that the susceptibility to SCC of the as-received 2024 AA depended on solution pH and stress level.This T4 heat treated alloy was more susceptible to SCC than the as-received one.SEM fractography showed that intergranular mode of SCC (IGSCC) occurred in 2024 AA regardless of heat treatment.
