Glutamate (Glu) is a major excitatory neurotransmitter in central nervous system, but high extracellular concentration of Glu causes neurotoxicity.N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors are ionotropic glutamate receptor subtype, which have been detected to express widely in peripheral non-neural tissues in recent years, but its function is far from being elucidated. Our series of studies suggested that the activation of the NMDA receptor in pulmonary plays a key role in the devolpment of lung injury.
