Monolithic columns were commercialized by Merck in 2000 after a long period of research and development [1,2].These new columns seemed to be promised a bright future and success in their competition with particle packed columns.Monolithic columns have a specific permeability equivalent to that of columns packed with 11m particles and efficiencies comparable or better than those of columns packed with 5m particles [4].
