  Dahurian Larch, Larix gmelinii Rupr, one of the three major timber coniferous in northeast China, has straight timber, clear wood texture, compact wood and natural color, and reveals important economic value in the building, decoration, paper production and chemical fiber industry.Lignin is the major factor that affects physical and mechanical properties of timber, which is synthesized through a series of enzyme-catalyzed polymerization.Phenylalanine ammonia-lyase (PAL) is an important rate-limiting enzyme in lignin biosynthetic pathway, which strongly restricts the lignin content of plant.Therefore, investigating feature and function of L.gmelinii PAL gene is very important to improve growth and timber quality.
