The CRH-binding protein (CRH-BP) is a 37 kDa secreted glycoprotein that binds CRH and urocortin with very high affinity. The CRH-BP inhibits CRH-mediated ACTH release from cultured pituitary cells in vitro, and is largely thought to inhibit the biological activity of CRH at pituitary and central sites of CRH-BP expression.Recent studies from our laboratory have demonstrated sexually dimorphic expression of CRH-BP in the murine pituitary, with dramatically increased levels in females (>400-fold).
